Job Description Summary
Registered Dietician for research studies within the Allergy unit at BC s Children's Hospital.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
Work Performed
1. Creation and testing of an algorithm for referral of food allergy patients with nutritional needs from the BC Children s Hospital allergy clinic.
- Performing chart reviews of allergy clinic patients to assess their primary nutritional needs.
- Discussing with allergists the primary reasons they refer patients to a dietitian.
- Creating a flowchart/algorithm that can be used in the clinic by allergists to determine whether patients should be seen by a dietitian at BCCH, in the community, or whether they can be sent home with written resources (pamphlets, websites etc.).
2. Creation of a resource list of local dietitians for families attending BC Children s Hospital allergy clinic.
3. Development of dosing schedules for oral immunotherapy research program.
- Performing a literature review of research on the different doses used for oral immunotherapy treatment across different research studies throughout the world.
- Creating dosing schedules for different food allergies based on the research findings from the literature review, and offering different options to children on oral immunotherapy based on their taste/texture preferences.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Required to conduct research activities in an ethical manner, working independently with minimal instruction and supervision. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered too. All activities involving participants are accountable to the Principal Investigator and the Postdoctoral Research Fellow s governing professional organization.
Supervision Received
The Clinical Dietitian works under minimal supervision/direction and exercises a high degree of clinical judgment and autonomy. The incumbent is expected to exercise a considerable amount of judgment and initiative in duties and responsibilities.
Supervision Given
May provide work direction to research staff as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC).
